Cutting out caffeine right before your period... if you know, you know. And if you don’t, I’ll explain. Caffeine is delicious and has many health benefits, HOWEVER, if you suffer from PMS then it might be beneficial for you to cut it out before your period and until you’re done bleeding. If you’re really sensitive, or experience breast tenderness before your period, then you might want to consider cutting it out entirely. But also, if the research is all in agreement - there probably isn’t enough research - and here we see results going both ways. So as always, listen to your body.
On the note of coffee and periods, coffee can cause inflammation and bloating. So if you experience cramping during menstruation, then try cutting coffee out and see what happens.
Now onto the benefits of beetroot! It has benefits for the gut, brain, and heart <3
Lowers blood pressure
Improves gut health (a healthy gut can effectively metabolize your hormones - so happy gut = happy hormones)
Improves blood flow
Loaded with iron - which we are losing as we bleed.
Beetroot powder is great for any phase, but I categorize it into the menstrual and luteal phases. This is because, in these phases, you want to avoid caffeine to reduce uncomfortable symptoms. But specifically during menstrual, it's great because you are losing iron as you bleed, and 1 tsp of beetroot powder has 50% of your daily value of iron!
